Bible in 90 days – Day 6 – Exodus 15-28
“You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can’t do it alone.” Exodus 18:18 CSB
Recounting the Exodus, Moses remembers and records this interaction with his recently converted father-in-law. I have wondered, if Moses spoke with God face-to-face, why did he have to hear this one from Jethro? Wouldn’t God have told Moses this? Was Jethro correct? Did God not care?
Perhaps God is concerned with family dynamics, and wanted this one to come from the father-in-law, to the blessing of Moses and the entire nation of Israel.
Thanks, dad.
Apparently even if we’re the greatest prophet in history, God wants us to maintain the ability to seek and follow wisdom from those around us. Even recent converts. Even in-laws.
(I’m closing out 2017 by reading through the Bible in 90 days. I’ll be attempting to post a verse and a brief reflection from each days reading. You can follow the whole series here.)
