Bible in 90 Days – Day 5 – Exodus 1-15
“But the more they [the Egyptians] oppressed them [the Israelites], the more they multiplied and spread so that the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites.” Exodus 1:12 CSB
This is the history of all God’s people. When oppressed, they multiply and spread. This is God’s original mandate to mankind (Genesis 1:28) but our rebellion is that we want to huddle together in safety and comfort (Genesis 11).
So God works with his children. Through obedience to His command, or through oppression, the mandate that we multiply and spread will take place unhindered. We might suffer a bit in the short run, but we will make it home in the end.
