Bible in 90 days – day 2 – Genesis 17-28
Genesis 28:13-14 (To Jacob)
“I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and your offspring… …and in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.”
Jacob did not yet know The LORD as “My God” but as “the God of my father”, and it was in THAT condition that God initiated with Jacob, called him, and made an irrevocable promise of blessing to him.
As we continue the narrative through the pentateuch and histories, we find that Israel was expelled from the land permanently, but the blessing and promise continued.
That blessing pointed ultimately to God’s son, Jacob’s offspring: Jesus, the Christ, through whom all the nations of families of the earth can be blessed.
(I’m closing out 2017 by reading through the Bible in 90 days. I’ll be attempting to post a verse and a brief reflection from each days reading. You can follow the whole series here.)
