3-D desktops?

I have been thinking about going Linux for a while now. Mostly because of my increasing loathing of Microsoft products. Microsoft products tend to be fairly poorly planned/constructed/maintained. Most often, instead of improving a product they abandon it in favor of a new piece of software or a new edition of it (Win 3.1->95/NT->98/NT4.0->ME->2000->XP->

I have put the switch on the back burner, in favor of more important, pressing, life matters (I can’t be a techno-geek ALL the time you know…)
